A Visit to Terra Creta in Kolymvari, Crete + Marathopita (Fennel Pie)

Crete is a magical place that arguably boasts some of the best food that Greece has to offer. Among those is the staple item found in every Greek household, the green gold of Greece: olive oil. Before I lived in Greece, good Greek oil, particularly from Crete, was hard to find. But Terra Creta, which distributes extensively internationally, is one brand that I always found accessible and of dependable, high quality.

When I moved to Greece I had access to incredible olive oil. One of my favorite things to do in Athens is to get fresh bread from the bakery, still piping hot...come home, rip off a huge piece, pour a healthy serving of olive oil and sea salt on a plate, and mop. it. up. Olive oil produced in Greece is incredibly flavorful and luxurious, and when oil tastes this good, that's a perfect way to enjoy it.

Last September I toured the grounds of Terra Creta with the team, and cooked marathopita under shade of olive trees in the hot September sun. During my visit, I learned about their relationships with local farmers, about Crete's olive varietals, and how to swirl, smell and taste the oil. It could not have been a more perfect setting to cook my favorite dish. Warm and welcoming, after visiting Terra Creta I appreciate their attention to quality and international reach even more; an amazing way to bring the essence of Crete into any home.
